IMPORTANT FACTS

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
BY JUST CHANGING LIGHT BULBS!

The LIGHT BULB HOT LINE, 1-516-822-BULB was created by
B and B Ventures, Inc.'s, EELC Service, (Environmental, Energy and Lighting Consultants). EELC was the Energy Advisor to the Earthday Committee in New York City for their twentieth anniversary. For over ten years, EELC has been testing these new bulbs. Our LIGHT BULB Hot Line has received praise from Ralph Nader, Consumer Advocate; Mark Green, former Consumer Affairs NYC; and was published in Consumer Report Magazine. For more details visit our Credentials & Company page. The link is on the left.

Even though most items in the home today are technologically up to date, most of us are still using the standard light bulb designed in 1928!

Though the initial purchasing cost for these new light bulbs is higher than standard bulbs, the savings on your electric bill will not only pay for the new bulb but also put money in your pocket!

DID YOU KNOW?

Standard light bulbs will lose up to 45% of their light output with use. However, you continue to pay for the full wattage of the bulb! For example, a 100 watt bulb on 12 hours a day will give about 55 watts of light after 5 weeks of use. Meanwhile, you still pay for 100 watts of electricity! Then, in about ten weeks the bulb will burn out! This is why when you replace a bulb, the new bulb is much brighter than the one you just replaced.

The new energy saving bulbs lose only 10% to 15% of their light output and last about 2 1/2 years when on 12 hours a day...Over 27 years if used less than one hour per day! These bulbs realize up to 76% savings in electricity and energy.

EXPECTED LIFE OF STANDARD BULBS: 750 hours
EXPECTED LIFE OF NEW BULBS: 10,000 hours or 15,000 hours !
The Lamp Life is printed on each bulb's box.

DID YOU KNOW that 90% of the energy used by a 1928 designed bulb creates heat?! Only 10% of the energy produces light.

DID YOU KNOW that Quartz lights are not much better than the 1928 light bulb? Quartz bulbs only save you about $6.00 off the electric bill by the time they burn out.

DID YOU KNOW that Dimmer Switches can only save around 10% when dimming a bulb all the way down. In fact, if your dimmer switch is warm to the touch, then it is not saving you anything. You get less light when paying more.

DID YOU KNOW that when you shut the lights you not only save on the electric bill, you also save BTUs for your air conditioning. Approximately 3.4 BTUs are saved for every watt no longer in use and not giving off heat. There are 12,000 BTUs per ton, thus using more efficient lighting will make the indoor environment more comfortable and save even more on the electric bill when the air conditioning is calculated in.

DID YOU KNOW that America's economy grew over 60% from 1982 to 1998, while our energy consumption remained the same! This data cited from E-The Environmental Magazine; January 1998, proves that energy savings steps really work when done right.

By just changing a light bulb you will not only save yourself money but drums of oil for America! Reports prove that if everyone in a given state were to use energy saving light bulbs instead of the 1928 design bulbs still used today, we would be able to shut down power plants in that state! One high efficient energy saving bulb eliminates, over its lifetime, 524 pounds of coal or approximately 350 pounds of carbon or saves almost half a barrel of oil!

Fewer power plants translate into helping solve problems with: Acid Rain, Greenhouse Effect, Nuclear Waste, Air Pollution, high electric rates, high electric bills and more!
